ABOUT
Kolb & Co. was founded in 1914 by Jakob Kolb. As a young man Jakob began producing and selling soaps and detergents locally in the city of Zurich. First the company’s manufacturing site was located in the city center and later relocated to District 5. Back then the industrial sector of Zürich. Today it is morphing into a hub of gastronomy, cutting-edge art galleries and cultural spaces.
Jakob Kolb gradually expanded its soap and detergent factory and produced a range of high quality soaps and detergents. The range increased under the leadership and development of son and successor Theodor Jakob Kolb to a broad product portfolio. The detergents and cleaners of Kolb & Co. were still to be found in many Swiss households and businesses until the end of the 1980s.
Facing bigger multinational competitors and the upcoming consumer desire for more modern American Soap forced the small Swiss brand to temporarily withdraw from the market.The factory's machines in district 5 came to a stop.
Almost 30 years later, Jakobs great granddaughter got in touch with the Kolb & Co. soaps and the family recipe and decided to revive the family tradition and values.
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the soap factory, inspired by the long history of Kolb & Co., the fourth generation of the family-owned company reinvented the Kolb & Co brand, sticking to it’s tradition and values.
